Top Fully-Funded Scholarships for Students from Africa

Africa London Nagasaki (ALN) Fund: 

Full scholarships are given by the University College London’s (UCL) Africa London Nagasaki (ALN) Fund to undergraduates enrolled in masters or doctoral programs. The grant covers total funding to pay for extra costs like international airfare and total financing to selected applicants. This scholarship will pay up to 50% of the living and tuition costs for those selected. Applicants must apply to their undergraduate institution or sponsoring company.

Swiss Commission on International Migration (SCIM):

The SCIM Scholarship pays for overseas students’ tuition and travel costs if they want to pursue academic careers in Switzerland. Sub-Saharan Africans who are super motivated and want to study in Switzerland are eligible for this grant. Excellent academic standing and a clear plan are requirements for selection as a recipient of this scholarship.

Undergraduate Program Scholarships at North Carolina State University:

Students worldwide who want to attend North Carolina State University are given these undergraduate scholarships. A panel of judges will evaluate each application individually, considering their academic ability, extracurricular activities, leadership potential, financial need, etc.

Mandela Rhodes Scholarships: 

This distinguished award, established in Nelson Mandela’s memory, is presented to outstanding academics worldwide. Scholars are fully supported at Oxford University in England or Cambridge University in England for up to three years. If they live beyond 200 miles from Oxford or Cambridge, each recipient also receives travel costs for two persons, including their parents or guardians.

Bright Futures Awards:

Highly motivated undergraduate students who demonstrate exceptional potential for achievement and have been accepted to a recognized U.S. university or graduate program are eligible for these rewards. Amounts ranging from $2,000 to $4,000 may be given to eligible students to help with undergraduate costs, including tuition, books, housing, meals, etc.

Australia Awards Africa:

This prize is intended to draw and motivate talented Africans to study for a degree or credential in Australia. A full panel of judges will evaluate each application individually, considering their academic ability, extracurricular activities, leadership potential, financial need, etc. The total cost of the applicant’s education in Australia will be covered if selected.

Watson Fellowship:

The Watson Fellowship, established in 1917, allows undergraduates to study a subject of interest that they might not otherwise have access to. Scholars receive between $8,000 and $20,000 toward study-abroad expenses like travel, accommodation, meals, and other expenses.

VLIR-UOS Awards Scholarships:

These prizes are intended to draw and encourage exceptional African students to study abroad for a degree or other type of credential in Italy. A distinguished panel of judges will evaluate each application individually, considering their academic ability, extracurricular activities, leadership potential, financial need, etc.

DRD-DAAD Merit Scholarships:

The American Council on Education (ACE) and the Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst (DAAD) founded this scholarship program in 1970, and it now draws over 2,000 applicants each year to study at German universities. The scholarships cover expenses associated with studying abroad, such as travel, hotel, meals, etc., and vary from $7,000 to $18,000 annually.

 

Scholarships for Studies in Africa

African Development Bank Scholarships

The African Development Bank (ADB) offers scholarships for students who want to further their studies in Africa. The African Development Bank offers more than 3100 scholarships, including postgraduate scholarships, professional training scholarships, senior staff fellowships, and graduate research fellowships.

Each scholarship form has specific requirements for applicants, typically related to grades, degree level, discipline, etc. Through research ideas and grant applications, each of which has specific requirements, one can apply for any of these scholarships. You can also get these awards by volunteering at the African Development Bank, frequently through NGOs collaborating closely with the ADB.

Aklilu Lemma Scholarship Awards

Award-winning charitable organization Aklilu Lemma Scholarships is situated in Nairobi, Kenya. It offers financial aid to low-income families in Kenya who want to send their kids to secondary school. Their main priority is ensuring every child has the opportunity to acquire an excellent education and access further education. Before someone may be considered for the prize, they must all meet a set of requirements.

Commonwealth Scholarships in Africa: 

The Commonwealth Secretariat sponsors this distinguished award program, which provides fellowships to nationals of any Commonwealth nation who want to undertake a course of study in any African nation. You must fulfill requirements related to your academic background, previous job, and personal profile to qualify for this award. You must also show how your subject of study links to your nation or region of origin. The available funds are strictly limited, and an application deadline must be met before it passes.

ESAD Alumni Award: 

Africans can engage with other African researchers and academics from Europe through the European Society of African Studies (ESAS), a European organization established in 1989. The society’s primary goal is to promote scholarly dialogue and interaction between Europe and Africa. As a result, it has released its postgraduate publication, “Discourse & Interaction,” which enables academics from across the continent to discuss current challenges relevant to Africa’s growth. Students from sub-Saharan Africa who want to continue their education in European universities can get research funding through ESAS Alumni scholarships.

Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Tanzania Funded Young Leaders: 

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung began a program in 2006 to provide Tanzanian youths with the opportunity to learn new skills, connect with like-minded individuals, and advance their professional prospects. To give talented young Tanzanians access to leadership training, skill development, and professional networking possibilities in Germany, it created the financed Young Leaders scheme. These programs provide technical training, foreign language instruction, business management, information technology, and project management courses for free or at a reduced cost.

Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship: 

Former CEO of one of Africa’s largest conglomerates, Heirs Holdings Limited, Tony Elumelu oversees over 40 businesses in different industries, including agriculture, education, real estate, information technology, healthcare, manufacturing, financial services, oil and gas, media, retail, telecommunications, shipping, textiles, utilities, automotive, entertainment, and renewable energy. He established the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) in 2013, a charitable organization that aims to promote entrepreneurship and total economic development on the African continent. The organization has given nearly $700 million to 474 people so far.
