For international students, choosing between two countries is not easy because there are a lot of choices to make among a myriad of factors such as the availability of courses, tuition costs, living expenses, and prospects. This requires a tough choice on which school to attend in the selected country. Australia and Canada are among the most English-speaking nations attracting over half of the international students yearly. Canada’s University of Toronto is ranked as the top national university and #26 worldwide, and the Australian National University is ranked first in the country and #27 worldwide. Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Canberra, and other Australian cities are among the top. Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Ottawa, and other Canadian cities are among the best cities to learn.

This article will determine which country best fits your profile based on several variables.

Differences in Canada Vs. Australia Immigration 2022

Canada

1. Admission requirement

To be admitted to a Canadian university, you must complete 12 years of education and enroll in undergrad (UG) programs. To be eligible as a candidate for admission, you need to pass the SAT. Degree programs run for about four years. Diploma courses run between two and three years.

Admission to vocational programs is more straightforward for post-graduate (PG) programs because the admission requirements can be more flexible. You need to pass the GMAT test to be admitted into management programs. To be accepted into engineering programs, you must pass the GRE test. Whatever your educational background, taking a language exam like the IELTS is mandatory. While some universities might not require a language test for Nigerian students, it is recommended to test for the TOEFL and the IELTS since they are essential for getting an entry visa. If the person interviewing you for visas is uncertain about your verbal skills, your visa could be rejected.

Applying for a Canadian student visa in the first 90 days after your studies, you must be eligible for a post-graduation job visa. A medical test is mandatory in the application process if you are a Nigerian applicant visa. If the spouse stays in the country for at least a year, the spouse can work full-time. The fee for applying for this visa is $150.

You cannot work longer than 20 hours per week. Students can take up to 40 hours per week during breaks, holidays, and summer sessions.

2. Post-Graduate Work Visa

This Canadian Post-Graduation Work Visa allows students who have completed their studies at any post-secondary school to work in Canada following graduation for up to 3 years, based on the duration of their studies. Students can be employed in any industry or field with this authorization.

3. Climate conditions

Its weather conditions in Canada differs greatly based on the location you are in. Canada covers five time zones and stretches from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean. The winter season in Toronto is more pleasant than in most Canadian cities, but it’s still wintery and cold. Montreal’s winter weather is frigid and snowy. The summers in Canada are typically refreshing and cool and offer an opportunity for residents to breathe after a cold winter.

Australia

1. Admission requirements

Most institutions located in Australia have a requirement of 12 years of university-level education for UG degrees. This makes it simpler for Nigerian students to get direct admission to the program or degree they want to pursue. After you have completed a three-year UG diploma, you may apply for PG courses. For engineering bachelor’s degrees, a four-year degree is mandatory. GMAT is required to be able to gain admission to post-graduate degrees. However, GRE is rarely accepted as a requirement for admission to PG programs at Australian universities.

For the management classes offered by some colleges, prior work experience might not be necessary. Taking the graduate certificate or diploma program is necessary even if you do not have prior work knowledge. While the school may allow you to skip the IELTS or TOEFL, they are both required to be admitted.

2. Acquiring Student Visa

A student visa to Australia is not available as stickers. The fee for applying for one Australian student visa amounts to $620. Students with a visa can be employed for up to 40 hours per week when studying in Australia. Doctoral and Ph.D. spouses of students are permitted to be employed for an unlimited amount of hours after completing their studies. Only when students are pursuing doctoral or master’s degrees is the spouse considered dependent.

3. Post-Graduate Work Visa

Graduates with a Bachelor’s or Masters’s degree earned from an Australian university and an active study visa can be considered for a post-study work visa. Graduates with an academic diploma or other credentials might be eligible for an 18-month visa for subclass 485 in Australia in”graduate employment.

4. Climate conditions

The country is situated in the southernmost region of the hemisphere. This means that the summer season in Australia starts in December, and winter begins in June. The tropics cover three-quarters of Australia and average temperatures of mid-twenties Celsius. The southernmost regions of the country are situated in the temperate zone. The country generally has relatively mild temperatures throughout the year.

The above factors are primary considerations when deciding on a country to study. Canada and Australia offer work-study opportunities for students who wish to remain in the country after completing their studies. While the requirements for admission to the two countries, Canada and Australia, are similar in degree of difficulty, obtaining a student visa in Canada is much easier than in Australia. The difference is that Australia can be more comfortable concerning weather conditions than Canada’s severe weather.
